About
🐾🌟 Calling all animal lovers and compassionate souls! 🐶🐷🐮

My dear friend Kelly, the dedicated executive director of Black Dawg Farm and Sanctuary, is in need of our support. Due to a life-changing car accident, she has been unable to fulfill her vital role in running the sanctuary and fundraising for their crucial expenses.

The sanctuary provides a loving and safe home for rescued farm animals, offers educational opportunities, and serves as a community resource for various groups. Kelly and her husband Tom have poured their hearts and souls into this sanctuary, but they need our help now more than ever....

If you have the means to donate, please consider supporting Black Dawg Farm and Sanctuary through their Facebook donation page or by becoming a monthly donor on their website: https://blackdawg.org/donate-today

Let's come together and show our love and support for Kelly, Tom, and all the beloved animals at Black Dawg Farm and Sanctuary. Your contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference. 🌿🐾💕 #SupportBlackDawg #AnimalRescue #CommunitySupport

ACTIVITY

Samarra, a remarkable livestock guardian dog known for her dedication to protecting the goats and sheep on the sanctuary, has left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her name, meaning protector, perfectly encapsulated her role and her essence.

From a young age, Samarra and her loyal companion, Zoosk, formed a bond that only grew stronger with time. Their playful antics, occasional disagreements, and unwavering love for each other warmed the hearts of all who witnessed the...ir camaraderie. Samarra's nurturing instinct shone through in her care for the pygmy goats, whom she groomed and watched over with a mother's devotion.

The sight of Samarra and Zoosk running along the fenceline, their joy evident to all who saw them, will be a cherished memory. Samarra's sudden illness and passing have left a void that is deeply felt, especially by Zoosk, who mourns her absence profoundly.

Last week, we noticed Samarra showing signs of not eating and becoming lethargic. Initially, we didn't consider it alarming as she had occasional periods of not eating. However, her weakness became apparent, prompting us to take her to Olympia Veterinary Specialists without delay. During her time there, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and sadly, she passed away. The doctor informed us of the heartbreaking progression of events.

At the veterinary hospital, Samarra was examined by the internal medicine team, who discovered cancer spread throughout her liver with significant growths. They also observed pulmonary edema. Tragically, she succumbed to pulmonary pneumothorax, a condition where fluid fills the lungs, making breathing impossible. Despite the valiant efforts of the medical team, Samarra's condition did not improve, and she passed away swiftly.

The dedicated staff at Olympia Veterinary Specialists provided exceptional care for Samarra. She was closely monitored in the ICU and became a beloved patient due to her gentle nature.

Unlike most of our elderly sanctuary animals whose end-of-life decisions involve humane euthanasia, Samarra was young, healthy, and regularly had positive check-ups. Her sudden illness and passing came as a profound shock to us, leaving us utterly devastated.

As we grieve the loss of Samarra, we find solace in the memories we shared with her and the love she brought into our lives. A small memorial and the planting of a tree in her honor will serve as a tribute to her enduring spirit and the impact she had on all who knew her.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered kind words of support and contributed to Samarra's medical care. Your generosity and compassion have been a source of comfort during this difficult time. Samarra may no longer be with us physically, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
