Here are some safety tips to bear in mind when requesting and offering help on Facebook in response to a crisis:
Meet in a safe location: Try to meet in a public place. Before going to an agreed upon location, tell a family member or a friend the exact place where you'll be meeting, bring your mobile phone and consider asking someone to come with you.
Protect your privacy: People may need to share their personal information (e.g. mobile phone number, address) so that you can meet in person to provide assistance. Remember to always be cautious when sharing personal information with others and never share financial information.
Consider mutual friends: Before messaging someone through Crisis Response, look to see if you and the person have mutual friends on Facebook. If you do share any mutual friends, you can then check in with your friend before meeting someone you don't know personally.
Report suspicious posts: If you see a post that looks suspicious, please report the post to Facebook for our team to review. This will help keep the community safe.
