Difference between a member, participant and visitor in a public Facebook group
In public groups, you can interact with a group as a member or as a visitor. Once a member or visitor has posted or commented in the group, they'll become a participant.
Member: someone who has joined the group
- No admin approval required
- Can post and comment
- Possible exception: if admins turn on participant approval, then members will need to be approved as participants before they can post or comment for the first time. Once someone has been approved as a participant, their future posts might still require admin approval.
- Sees group content in their Feed and other places on Facebook, and can be made an admin or moderator
Visitor: someone who isn't a member of the group
- No admin approval required
- Can post and comment
- Possible exception: if admins turn on participant approval, then visitors will need to be approved as participants before they can post or comment for the first time. Once someone has been approved as a participant, their future posts might still require admin approval.
Participant: a member or visitor who has posted or commented in the group
- Admin approval required if admin has turned on participant approval
- Can post and comment
- Note: once someone has been approved as a participant, their future posts might still require admin approval if the admin has set up post approval.
