Privacy and safety in broadcast channels on Messenger

Broadcast channels are not currently available in all countries or on all platforms. If you can't see broadcast channels for your Page, you may be able to request early access.
If you have Facebook access with full or partial control of a Page, you can create broadcast channels on Facebook and Messenger to share one-way messages, such as announcements, exclusive content and more with your community.
In broadcast channels, only people with full or partial control of a Page can send content. People who join a broadcast channel can read and react to messages in the channel, as well as vote in polls, but they cannot send messages.
As broadcast channels are designed for more public conversations, they can be found and joined by anyone on Facebook or Messenger. Channels are different from the private chats that you use to connect with family and friends, and different from community chats.
Unlike other chats and group chats on Facebook and Messenger:
Management
  • Broadcast channels are managed by the people who manage Pages, who have the ability to moderate content posted in the channel, remove people from the channel or delete the channel.
Privacy
  • Broadcast channels are not private or end-to-end encrypted. They can be found, seen and joined by people not in the channel. For example, people can preview a channel and see its content before joining it. Anyone can find a channel on Facebook or Messenger through search. Bear in mind that even if somebody joins a channel later, they will still be able to see all previous channel content.
  • Broadcast channels will still show your previous activity to others in a channel even after you've left the channel or deleted your Facebook account. However, your name and profile picture will not appear next to your activity in the channel after deleting your account.
  • Your activity with other channel members, such as the content that you have sent and received, will be included when you've downloaded a copy of your data.
Safety
  • Broadcast channels are subject to additional review processes by Meta. When something goes against our Community Standards, Meta has content enforcement systems in place to respond. For example, we use artificial intelligence, machine learning tools and human reviewers to help us identify, review or remove content that may violate our Community Standards – often, before anyone sees it. Learn more about our content review process.
Bear in mind that:
  • You can leave a broadcast channel at any time.
  • Broadcast channels are different from community chats, which are chats connected to a Facebook group. Learn about how community chats work.
