Understand how subscribing to use Meta Products without ads limits your ability to advertise and monetise with ads

Due to changing laws, you have a choice about how we use your information for ads. You can choose to subscribe to use our products without ads or you can use them for free with ads.
Should you choose to subscribe, we won't show you ads and your information will not be used for ads. Therefore, we can no longer place ads on or adjacent to your content.
A subscription to use our products without ads affects your ability to run ads and participate in partnership ads. Subscribing also affects your ability to earn money through our products.
If you subscribe, the following are no longer available to you because it would require using your information for ads:
- Running ads and boosting posts for an Instagram account
- Running ads and boosting posts for your Facebook profile (for example, boosting your own Marketplace listings)
- Running ads for a Facebook Page, if the Page is linked to an Instagram account that has a subscription to use Meta Products without ads
- Participating in partnership ads on Instagram or Facebook
- Monetising with Ads on Reels and in-stream ads
If any of these types of ads are active when you subscribe, they are disabled for the duration of your subscription. You can review the status of your campaigns in Ads Manager. For creator monetisation experiences affected by a subscription, you're paid for any revenue that you have earned up until the day that you subscribed. Your earnings are disabled from then onward.
If you subscribe, you can still run the following types of ads:
- Boosting posts or running ads for a Page, if the Facebook Page isn't linked to an Instagram account that has a subscription to use Meta Products without ads
If you subscribe and are an eligible creator, you can still participate in the following monetisation experiences:
- Monetising exclusive content on Facebook or Instagram with subscriptions for your fans
- Receiving Instagram gifts and Facebook Stars from your fans
There are three primary ways in which advertisers may remain limited in their ability to advertise or monetise with ads:
- Users in the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are under 18 have limitations on their ability to run ads and participate in partnership ads, as well as on their ability to earn money through our products.
- Users with Facebook or Instagram advertising accounts that are 18 and over in the EU, EEA and Switzerland that have not yet made a choice to continue using Facebook or Instagram for free with ads or subscribe to use without ads, will have limitations on their ability to edit existing campaigns or create new campaigns until a choice has been made.
- Users with Facebook or Instagram advertising accounts that are 18 and over in the EU, EEA and Switzerland and have decided to subscribe to Meta Products without ads will have limitations on their ability to run ads and participate in partnership ads.
Common use cases of when advertiser would not be able to run ads include:
- Advertiser has not yet made a choice for their Instagram business's account(s). In this case, the advertiser or person running ads on behalf of the advertiser would see an error message saying that they need to log in to the applicable Instagram account and make a choice on behalf of that account to either subscribe to use Meta Products without ads or use them for free with ads. They will be prompted to make this choice as soon as they open the Instagram app or website.
- Advertiser has chosen to subscribe to use Meta Products without ads and are then trying to run ads on Instagram or boost posts for a Facebook account. Advertisers or people running ads on behalf of the advertiser would see an error message saying that because the account subscribed to Meta Products without ads, they cannot run ads on Instagram or Facebook. These users can manage their subscription and update their choice at any time by going to Ad preferences.
- Advertiser is trying to run ads for a Facebook Page, where the Page is linked to an Instagram account that has chosen subscription for no ads. Advertisers would see error messaging saying that because they subscribed to use Meta Products without ads, they cannot launch an ad in Ads Manager. These users would need the owner of the linked Instagram account to review their choice, which can be done at any time by going to Ad preferences or would need to unlink the affected Instagram account.
