Create an ad set in Meta Ads Manager

If you're new to Ads Manager, the account overview page will guide you through the steps required to set up your ad account. Go to Account overview to get started.

Go to Ads Manager. To create an ad, select Create to get started. You will have to create a complete campaign and ad set before you can publish an ad for the first time. If you prefer to use an existing campaign or ad set, learn to create a new ad with an existing campaign.

Before you begin

It's important to consider your ad placement options and how your choices affect the objectives that you choose at the campaign level. The objective that you choose determines whether your ads can appear on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Meta Audience Network. Create an ad set

These steps refer to campaigns that use auction as the buying type. If you choose reach and frequency as your buying type, learn how to set up a reach and frequency campaign.

  1. Create a campaign.
  2. Enter a descriptive name in the ad set name text box.
  3. Depending on the objective of your campaign, you may need to select a conversion location. Note: We are gradually introducing six new campaign objectives: Awareness, Traffic, Engagement, Leads, App promotion and Sales. Some of our previous objectives will now be available as a feature or optimisation setting when you create your ad set.
  4. You have the option to turn on dynamic creative at this level. Once turned on, you won't be able to manually customise your ads per placement in the ad level.
  5. In the Conversion section, you can choose the result that you want to prioritise by clicking Edit. Not all objectives have more than one option.
  6. If applicable, set your daily or lifetime budget and type in the amount.
  7. Select your start and end date. The start date can't be in the past.
  8. Select Show more options to schedule your ads for different times of day. Schedules are only available for lifetime budgets.
  9. Define your audience.
    • Otherwise, hover over Locations, Age, Gender, Detail targeting and Languages, and select Edit to create a new audience. Select Save this audience to use it again later.
  10. Choose your ad placements.
    • Select Advantage+ placements, to let the system show your ads where they're likely to perform best.
    • Or, select Manual placements to manually choose your ad placements.

Select Close to save your ad set, or Next to move on to ad creation.
