Customise your ad creative for placements
Before you begin
- Learn about the objectives, formats, placements and other options that are not compatible with asset customisation.
- Review available ad placements on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Meta Audience Network.
Customise your ad creative for placements
To create an ad and locate the asset customisation tools:
- Create your ad in Meta Ads Manager. Choose your objective, select your budget and audience until you've reached Ad setup.
Choose from:
- Create ad. Then, select Add media,
then Add image.
- Use existing post. Then, select Select a placement to edit.
- Use Creative Hub mockup. Then, select Edit, then Edit media.
- Add your media on the page Add media and select Next.
On the Crop screen, you can change your image aspect ratio for our different placements.
- Select Crop to change your image focal point.
- Select Replace to change your media for each placement group.
Select Next when you're ready.
- On the Optimise screen, you may be able to toggle on All optimisations or a selection of optimisations to automatically transform your media to the best version for your audience. Learn more about Advantage+ creative.
- Select Done to save your changes.
To edit individual or multiple placements
Edit multiple placements at the same time under Ad creative by hovering over the groups and selecting
. You can edit Feeds, in-stream videos, Stories and Reels, apps and sites or Right column and search results.
You can edit individual placements by selecting
on a group of placements, then
.
- You can select:
Turn into video (image only) to turn your image into a video.
Change to display a different image or video.
Crop (or Crop and trim for video) to adjust the aspect ratio of your image or video and edit your video.
Thumbnail (video only) to choose an image to show before your video starts and after it has ended.
Captions (video only) to generate or upload captions.
Primary text to edit or add text above your image or video.
Headline to edit or add text below your image or video.
Destination to edit or add a website destination (and an app destination if you're using cross-channel optimisation).
Poll (video only) to engage people with a question and two answer options.
Text overlay (video only) to add text to your video. Guardrails are available to help you avoid placing the overlays in safe zones.
Logo overlay (video only) to add a logo to your video.
Background colour (Stories and Reels only) to choose a colour, or add the hex values for your own brand colours.
- When you're ready, select Save. Select Cancel to undo your changes at any time.

After reviewing your ad placements, select Publish. Your ad will run showing customised images or videos on different ad placements.
