Q: What does the exam cover and are certain topics more important than others?
A: The Community Manager Exam consists of the following sections. The percentages reveal how much each section will count towards your final mark.

Define and establish a community (8%)
This section will test your ability to:
  • Make determinations required to develop community goals, objectives, mission, purpose, values and measurements.
  • Apply concepts required to create and assess community guiding principles.
Develop community strategies and processes (27%)
This section will test your ability to:
  • Make determinations required to cultivate and evolve a platform strategy.
  • Determine an audience strategy.
  • Analyse a branding strategy.
  • Apply concepts required for operational workflows.
  • Determine a team structure and management strategy.
  • Determine a launch strategy.
  • Apply concepts required to identify and leverage strategic partnerships.
Make strategic content decisions (16%)
This section will test your ability to:
  • Make determinations required to create and curate relevant content using a variety of tactics for specific target audiences within a community.
  • Identify trends and issues that can provide valuable insights to the community.
  • Make determinations required to implement goal-driven activities.
Engage and moderate a community (29%)
This section will test your ability to:
  • Apply concepts required to onboard community members, maintain operations and foster member-to-member connections.
  • Make determinations required to address and resolve crises and conflicts.
  • Implement engagement tactics based on audience segmentation.
  • Adhere to Community Standards and Terms of Service.
Measure and analyse community success (20%)
This section will test your ability to:
  • Analyse content and engagement performance.
  • Examine data to conduct quantitative and qualitative reporting.
  • Establish a feedback collection, learning and implementation process.
  • Build a sustainability model, including identifying opportunities for revenue generation when applicable.
Q: How do I get recertified?
A: You have two options for recertification:

Option 1: Complete online courses and assessment (refresh).

If you choose this option, please note the following:

  • The refresh option is available prior to the certification expiry date only.
  • The online courses are self-paced and should take approximately two hours to complete.
  • Both the courses and assessment are unproctored and only available online.
  • The assessment is pass or fail.
  • You may retake the assessment after a 24-hour period. Retakes are unlimited, as long as your certification hasn't lapsed.

To start your refresh, go to CertMetrics and click Schedule an exam. Next to Meta Certified Community Manager, click Refresh.

Option 2: Retake the exam.

If you choose this option, please note the following:

  • The exam has 60 questions and is 105 minutes long.
  • The passing score is 700 out of 1,000.
  • There is a five-day waiting period to retake the exam if you don't pass.

To retake the exam, go to CertMetrics and click Schedule an exam. Next to Meta Certified Community Manager, click Schedule my exam.

Once you've met the requirements for recertification, you'll receive an email confirming your recertification and your new certification expiry date.
