About ads for credit, employment or housing

To help prevent discrimination, our Discriminatory Practices advertising policy has special requirements for ads related to credit, employment and housing.

When you run these types of ads, you may need to choose a Special ad category during the creation of your campaign. You'll need to do this if:

  • You're an advertiser in the United States, or
  • Your target audience is in the United States, Canada or certain parts of Europe

If you meet the qualifications above and don't choose a special ad category, your ad may be rejected.

Ads for credit

Ads that promote or directly link to a credit offer.

Here are some examples of ads for credit under our policies:

They can include offers for the following and more:

  • Credit cards
  • Brand ads for credit cards, regardless of offer
  • Car loans
  • Personal or business loan services
  • Mortgage loans
  • Long-term financing
  • Debt recovery
  • Debt relief

They don't include offers for the following:

  • Gift cards
  • Store rewards
  • Debit accounts or services
  • Current accounts or services
  • Savings accounts or services

Ads for housing

Ads that promote or directly link to a housing opportunity or related service.

Here are some examples of ads for housing under our policies:

They can include offers for the following and more:

  • Sale, rental or temporary housing listings
  • Homeowners insurance offers, including as part of insurance bundles
  • Renters insurance offers, including as part of insurance bundles
  • Mortgage insurance offers, including as part of insurance bundles
  • Financing options, including mortgage loans
  • Home equity or appraisal services
  • Property and house hunting services
  • Aggregator services

They don't include offers for the following:

  • Hotels
  • Resorts
  • Retreats
  • Tips related to home ownership or home buying
  • Education for consumers or housing providers about their rights and responsibilities under fair housing laws

Ads for employment

Ads that promote or directly link to an employment opportunity.

Here are some examples of ads for employment under our policies:

They can include offers for the following and more:

  • Full-time job
  • Part-time job
  • Internship
  • Apprenticeships
  • Professional certification programmes
  • Job fair
  • Job board or aggregation services
  • Guaranteed interviews or career placement
  • Promotion of company perks alongside employment opportunities

They don't include offers for the following:

  • General advice on how to succeed at work unrelated to specific listings
  • General advice for career development unrelated to specific listings
  • Discussing a company without sharing employment opportunities or perks

Targeting restrictions

When you choose a special ad category, we apply additional targeting restrictions to your campaign. These restrictions are a preventative measure to protect people from discriminatory practices. Your targeting options don't become limited to only people interested in credit, employment or housing opportunities. Learn more about targeting restrictions for credit, employment and housing ads.
