When Facebook charges you for ads

This article is intended for advertisers who use automatic billing to pay for their ads. If you need help with a prepaid funds method or a bank account (direct debit) to pay for your ads, see how you're charged for Facebook ads if you don't have a payment threshold instead.

When you pay for your ads depends on how you pay for them. When you create your first ad on Facebook, you add a payment method to your ad account. That payment method determines your payment setting.

If you use PayPal or most credit and debit cards to purchase ads, we automatically charge you whenever your ad costs reach your payment threshold. We charge you again on your monthly bill date for any leftover costs.

When you're charged if you have a payment threshold

As your ads run, they accrue ad costs that you're charged for later. You're charged for your ad costs when:

  • Your payment threshold is reached. A payment threshold is an amount that you can spend on ads before we charge you. Whenever your ad costs reach your payment threshold amount, we charge you for that amount.
  • On your monthly bill date. We automatically charge you for any leftover costs.

Check your payment threshold

You can follow these steps to check your payment threshold:

  1. Go to your Payment settings in Ads Manager.
  2. In the Next bill section, check the amount next to "You'll also get a bill when you spend". This is your payment threshold.

You receive a bill whenever you spend this amount as you're running ads. If you keep advertising after you've reached your payment threshold, you'll receive another bill on your bill date for any leftover ad costs. So, it's normal to be charged for your ads multiple times in a month or even after your ads have stopped running. If you'd like to change your payment threshold to a lower or higher amount, see how to manage your payment threshold.

About your monthly bill date

When you're charged depends on your payment threshold, your monthly bill date and the amount of money you're spending on ads. You're charged whenever your ad costs reach your payment threshold and on your bill date for any leftover costs that don't reach your threshold amount. If you don't spend enough to reach your payment threshold, you're only charged on your bill date.

You can check and change your monthly bill date to have more control over when to pay for your Facebook ads.

We don't charge you on your monthly bill date if:

  • You don't have any outstanding ad costs when your bill date comes.
  • Your accrued ad costs are less than USD 1.00.

Note: If you currently have an ad credit activated on your account, you will be charged differently and may not see your payment threshold or billing date.
