About detailed targeting

Detailed targeting is a targeting option available in the Audience section of ad set creation that allows you to refine the group of people that we show your ads to. You can do this with information such as additional demographics, interests and behaviours.

These detailed targeting options may be based on:

  • Ads they click on
  • Pages they engage with
  • Activities that people engage in across Meta technologies related to things such as their device usage and travel preferences
  • Demographics such as age, gender and location
  • The mobile device they use and the speed of their network connection

Trouble finding detailed targeting options

You may find that some detailed targeting options aren't available. We're continuously making changes to the targeting options that we provide to help you reach people who we believe are interested in or who we believe will respond well to the related ads.

In some instances, options that were once unavailable may become available through the same process. The most recent changes on detailed targeting interests can be found on the updates to detailed targeting page.

Localised interests

We translate the top interests in different languages. If you find that an interest isn't available in a certain language, it may not be included in the translation selections. We're constantly improving our language options for detailed targeting.

Using detailed targeting with ads that click to WhatsApp

Currently detailed targeting is not available for ads that click to WhatsApp.
