View ad set average cost

To understand how what you bid ties to your cost, you have to look at the correct columns in reporting. This article guides you through finding the average cost of the result that your ad set is optimised for in Ads Manager.

Before you begin

To gather the information you need:

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click Ad sets.
  3. Tick the box next to the ad set that you're interested in.
  4. To bring up the editing window, click the pencil icon.
  5. Make a note of what you chose as your "optimisation for ad delivery" result and conversion window.
  6. Close the editing window.
To customise your columns properly:

  1. Click the Performance drop-down menu.
  2. Click Customise columns.
  3. Click Comparing windows.
  4. Tick the box next to the attribution window type that matches your conversion window type.
  5. Tick the box next to the "cost per ["optimisation for ad delivery" choice]" from the list of columns.
  6. Click Apply.

Calculate the average cost of the result that your ad set is optimised for:

  1. Note the amount spent on your ad set.
  2. Divide the amount spent on your ad set by the number of results that your ad set was optimised for within your conversion window.

If you used target cost bidding, you can compare it with what you set as your target cost and adjust your ad set accordingly. If you didn't, it still gives you a good idea of how your ads are performing.
