Create an Instant Experience engagement custom audience

Classic Pages on Facebook are updating to the new Pages experience. You'll still have access to many of the same features to manage your professional presence, build your brand or business, grow your audience and connect with followers. Your content, insights, ads, Likes and followers will automatically transfer when your Page updates.

To create an engagement custom audience from an Instant Experience:

  1. Go to your Audiences.
  2. Click the Create audience drop-down and select Custom audience.

    Note: If you haven't created an audience yet, you'll see a Create a custom audience button (not a drop-down menu).

  3. Select Instant Experience and then click Next.
  4. In the Events section, choose the type of engagement that you want to use.
  5. Under Retention, enter the number of days that people will remain in your audience after they have engaged with your Instant Experience.
  6. Choose the Page whose Instant Experience/collections you want to use. You'll need to have task access to ads for the Page you want to use. You can use different Pages in different Page sections.
  7. Select or search specific Instant Experience options.
  8. Note: Here's an example of how this "look-back window" works: If you tell us to look back 30 days and a person engaged with your Instant Experience 29 days ago, they'll be a part of that Page (whether that means they're included in or excluded from the final audience). However, if they fail to engage again in the next day, they'll then be removed from it. Anyone new who engages within the time period and in the way you choose will be added to the rule (and included in or excluded from the audience as appropriate). This means that the audience is constantly being refreshed, so you don't need to edit or create a new audience of this type unless you want to change Page sections.

  9. Click Include more or Exclude more to add additional Page sections to your audience. You can have five Page sections per audience.
  10. Add an audience name (and description, if desired).
  11. Click Create audience.

Your custom audience will appear in your list of All audiences. In the column Availability, you will see Populating until it is ready.

Note: Targeting options are limited for audiences that include people under the age of 18 in most countries, under 20 in Thailand and under 21 in Indonesia. Learn more about targeting options to reach teens and how this update may affect your ad sets.

Note: You can't create new ad sets with audiences based on Facebook Pages that have been deleted, and you can't use those audiences in other campaigns. This includes engagement custom audiences, associated lookalike Audiences, special ad audiences or saved audiences that include an engagement custom audience.
