Create a Special ad audience

The size of your Special ad audience source may decrease because it may not include some iOS 14 users. Using it as a Special ad audience source will not affect your Special ad audience's size, but may affect the accuracy of the Special ad audience. Learn how iOS 14 may affect your ad strategy.

Starting from 25 August 2022, you will no longer be able to create new Special ad audiences. For more information please view About Special ad audiences.

You can create a Special ad audience if your ad campaign is part of a Special ad category. Once created, your Special ad audience is adjusted to align with the audience selection restrictions associated with your campaign's chosen Special ad category.

Note: Special ad audiences can only be created during the campaign creation process in Meta Ads Manager (not Audience Manager).

How to create

  1. From Ads Manager, go to the Audience section of your ad set.
  2. In the Custom Audience subsection, select the Create New drop-down and choose Special ad audience.
  3. Select your information source > audience location > audience size. (From the drop-down, you can also choose the number of Special ad audiences you want to create.)
  4. When finished, select the Create Audience button.
  5. In the Audience section of your campaign, you should see your Special ad audience listed in the Custom Audience text box.

If you are unable to delete your audience in Audience Manager, you can contact our support team. To request an audience deletion, go to Help, select your ad account and fill in the form.

Note: As always, your campaigns must comply with Meta's Discriminatory Practices Policy.

Note: You can't create new ad sets with audiences based on Facebook Pages that have been deleted, and you can't use those audiences in other campaigns. This includes engagement custom audiences, associated lookalike Audiences, special ad audiences or saved audiences that include an engagement custom audience.
