Some messaging campaigns and performance reporting unavailable

Due to new privacy rules in Europe and Japan, some messaging campaigns have been paused. This means that certain messaging-related ads, targeting and audiences for ads delivered to and from Europe and/or Japan will be unavailable.

Other messaging features that will be affected include:

Messaging campaigns and targeting

These features are temporarily unavailable for:

  • Ads delivered to or from Europe and/or Japan.
  • Ads that are targeted to locations in Europe and/or Japan.
  • Ads from advertisers or Pages based in Europe and/or Japan.

Unavailable features:

  • Sponsored messages

You can still run ads that click to message using the following substitutions. Changes to your campaign may affect performance.

  • The link clicks or conversions optimisation can be used instead of the leads optimisations.
  • The start conversations template can be used instead of the lead generation template.

Custom Audiences

We no longer support audiences based on people who sent a message to your business, so campaigns using these audiences will be paused.

You can update any of the affected Facebook Page Custom Audiences, Instagram Custom Audiences, Special ad audiences and Lookalike Audiences in Audience Manager until 9 December. After that date, you'll then be prompted to create a different event type.

These audiences may be affected:

  • Facebook Page Custom Audience
    • People who sent a message to your Page.
  • Instagram Custom Audience
    • People who sent a message to your professional account.
  • Lookalike Audience
    • Creation of Lookalike Audiences using messaging events from Facebook Page Custom Audiences or Instagram Custom Audiences.
  • Special ad audiences
    • Creation of Special ad audiences using messaging events from Facebook Page Custom Audiences or Instagram Custom Audiences.

Messaging-related metrics

Historical data will continue to be available in reporting surfaces for all locations, but certain metrics may no longer be logged and reported for businesses based in Europe and/or Japan.

For businesses outside Europe and/or Japan that receive messages from the affected and unaffected locations, messaging-related metrics may display partial data relating to the unaffected locations.

Messaging engagement metrics

  • Messaging conversations started
  • Messaging connections
  • New messaging connections
  • New blocked messaging connections
  • Cost per messaging conversation started

Conversion metrics with a messaging component

  • On-Facebook purchase (including API and reported purchases, such as "mark as paid")
  • On-Facebook leads
  • Appointments scheduled

View Results page and boosted posts

  • Messaging conversations started
  • Cost per messaging conversation started

Business Suite

Ads

  • Cost per messaging conversation started
