About Meta's Prescription Drugs Advertising Policy
Promoting prescription drugs is not allowed without prior written permission from Meta. Eligibility is limited to online pharmacies, telehealth providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers. To apply for permission, you'll need to complete the prescription drug advertiser application.
Once a qualified advertiser has written permission from Meta, they can run ads that promote prescription drugs in order to share information around medical efficacy, accessibility and affordability of different types of treatments, as long as they:
- Only target people in eligible countries (United States, Canada or New Zealand).
- Only target people in the countries in which they are certified.
- Only target people aged 18 years or older.
- Comply with all other applicable policies (for example, online pharmacies will need to comply with our Online Pharmacies policy).
Note: This policy governs only the promotion of prescription drugs. For more information about our policies prohibiting the sale of prescription drugs, see our unsafe substances policy. Meta prohibits the direct sale of prescription drugs across our technologies.

Application process
We use the prescription drug advertiser application to collect relevant information on advertisers seeking to promote prescription drugs. We partner with a third party, LegitScript, to help us determine if certain advertisers may be approved to promote prescription drugs in ads.
During the application process we collect two types of information:
- Business information that allows us to verify the existence and operation of your business in the countries that your ads target. That information may include, but is not limited to: Name, website, address and LegitScript certification status.
- Information that facilitates the review and appeal process of ads that promote prescription drugs. That information includes, but is not limited to: Facebook Page URL and ad account ID.
Once your application has been submitted, we anticipate that it will take 4-6 working days to process before a decision is issued, but in some cases it may take longer to verify the provided information. You should double-check that your application is accurate and complete before submitting it.
Policy-violating content
Meta Advertising Standards prohibit content that attempts to buy, sell, trade, donate, gift or solicit prescription drugs. In ads, that content can take many forms. Below is a non-exhaustive list of examples to help illustrate what is prohibited by our advertising policy on prescription drugs:
- Promoting prescription drugs without permission or without appropriate targeting.
- Promoting the sale of prescription drugs.
- Using call to actions (CTAs) with explicit or implied sales language.
- Listing the price of prescription drugs.
- Offering freebies or giveaways.
- Using ad text that suggests or implies direct access to prescription drugs without consultation or prescription.
Note that advertisers don't need written permission to run ads that only:
- Educate, advocate or give public service announcements related to prescription drugs.
- Promote telehealth services generally.
