Advertisers can't run ads that:

  • Declare or imply that there is a perfect body type or appearance that one should aspire to
  • Promote or reinforce negative or unhealthy body images
  • Exploit insecurities to conform to certain beauty standards
  • Contain distasteful messaging that could make people feel negatively about the way they look
  • Promote an unhealthy relationship with food or exercise
  • Show close-up imagery on the health condition of a person
  • Feature body shaming of any type

Examples

Weight loss service with potential of negative self-perception

Violating image: The following image is not allowed. Weight loss ads can't use content that may negatively affect people, such as using a tape measure around a person's body.

Alternative ideas: Use positive testimonials of people who have used the service.

Remember, ads that market weight loss products and services must also comply with our advertising policy on cosmetic procedures and wellness, which limits ad targeting to people 18 years of age or older.

Before and after with idealised results

Violating image: We do not allow ads to use before-and-after images to display idealised results.
