Ideas to Educate, Engage and Inspire Your Group Using Reels

Reels are an increasingly popular content format to engage communities on our platform.

Reels on Facebook are short-form videos of up to 90 seconds long. They’re made up of one or more video clips, recorded using the Facebook app, and can include effects and music.

Join the communities leveraging Reels on Facebook to educate, engage, and inspire your audience.

With so many possibilities, where do you start? Here are three Reels content ideas to try in your group.

We enlisted the assistance of Teresa Park from Mujeres del Futuro, a community group with more than 2000 members, to showcase these three ideas.

Idea 1: Welcome Your Newest Members

Engaging and welcoming your newest members is a great way to make them feel included and foster community. Regular welcome Reels are an engaging approach sure to make your newest group members feel special.

Idea 2: Showcase a Community Ritual

There are so many “ritual days” you can utilize as a springboard for content creation. Whether you’re running a community for finance professionals, new moms or something entirely different, make a community ritual day your own with a Reel that reflects you and your group’s personality.

These are a few options to try:

  • Mindful Monday
  • Monday Motivation
  • Tuesday Tip
  • Tuesday Trivia
  • Wednesday Wisdom
  • Throwback Thursday
  • Fun Friday
  • Self-Care Sunday

Idea 3: Make Education Fun

A Reel is a great way to create bite-sized, engaging content that your community will love. But what content formats work in this shorter format? We recommend brief how to posts that step users through a set of instructions, fun fact posts or countdown posts that count through a few interesting facts, or did you know reels that offer one interesting fact. No matter the subject, there’s a content format to make education entertaining in your group.

These are a few examples:

  • A how to post that steps through an easy cooking recipe
  • A skincare how to that steps through caring for your skin
  • A fun facts post that counts down the top five travel destinations to visit this year
  • A countdown post of three tips for investing for beginners
  • A did you know reel that reveals a little-known fact about an animal or plant species

To create a reel in a Facebook group:
  1. Tap Write something… at the top of the group.
  2. Scroll down and select Reels.
  3. Record and edit your reel.

  4. When you’re finished editing your reel, tap Next.
  5. Add a description if you’d like.
  6. Tap Share reel.

If you post a reel in a private group, any group member can see and engage with it. If you post a reel in a public group, anyone on or off Facebook, even if they’re not in the group, can see and engage with your Reel.

If you're a group admin, learn how to manage Reels and other features in your group, such as Community Chats to keep bringing group members closer together.

Whether you’re running a finance group, or a local parents’ group, test these ideas and put your own unique spin on them to bolster conversation, interaction and fun in your community.

Happy creating!
