About automatic events

The original 11 ad objectives in Meta Ads Manager have been simplified into 6 to better align with your business goals. All the same functionality is available through additional settings. Starting from January 2024, you can no longer create, duplicate or import campaigns, ad sets and ads previously created with the original objectives. As soon as you transition from original to simplified objectives, make sure that you pause the campaigns, ad sets and ads that use original objectives to avoid running identical campaigns in parallel. Learn more about this update to the ad objectives.

The Meta pixel receives information about the actions, or events, that take place on your website. Automatic events are actions that your pixel receives from your website that don't require you to add any additional code. Your pixel receives these actions through visitor activity and by using information about your web page to better understand context associated with these actions.

If you haven't used events before, with automatic events you can:

You can see your metrics for events received when you go to Events Manager, click the Data sources tab, select your pixel and click the Overview tab. Total events can include automatic events and any events you have manually added to your website or created using another platform, such as a partner integration.

Automatic events are de-duplicated from any other events that you have manually set up. We recommend keeping automatic events on for better Meta advertising optimisation.
