About the event setup tool for web

If you've installed the Meta pixel on your website, you can use the event setup tool to add events and parameters without adding code. Events are actions that people take on your website, such as making a purchase. Parameters provide more details about that action, e.g. the price of the purchase. Events unlock Meta advertising tools that help measure campaign results more accurately, grow audiences and find people who are likely to take the actions that you care about.

There are different ways in which you can set up events on your website including manual code installation, partner integrations or the event setup tool. The event setup tool can find and suggest events based on button text on your website that matches standard pixel event names. If there are events you'd like to set up that haven't been suggested, you can navigate through your website and add events to buttons or to Page URLs.

When you connect the event setup tool in Meta Events Manager, you can:

  • Set up any Meta standard website event directly on your website, without adding code.
  • Set up value and currency parameters for all standard events, without adding code.
  • Set up content ID and content type parameters for view content, add to cart, initiate checkout, purchase, search, add to wishlist and lead events, without adding code. If you set up content ID and content type parameters, and have at least one product in your catalogue, you can run Meta Advantage+ catalogue ads (previously known as dynamic ads) for products. Learn more about required pixel events and parameters for Advantage+ catalogue ads.
You may want to use a button, for example, when customers click a button to add an item to their basket but stay on the same page. Page URLs are useful to avoid pixel events occurring on errors. For example, if you set up a purchase event on a Buy now button, you may receive a pixel event every time a customer clicks Buy now, whether their purchase went through or not. If you set up the purchase event on the Thank you page of your website, you receive a purchase event when a customer successfully places an order and lands on that page.
